Pac-12 Showdown In Palo Alto Looms Large

Oregon vs StanfordSaturday night, 9-0 Stanford hosts 8-1 Oregon in a huge Pac-12 showdown. Stanford is 9-0 for the first time since 1951. This will not be an easy game for the Cardinal, as Oregon has beaten them four of their last five meetings. This game should determine which Pac-12 team goes to the Rose Bowl.

If Stanford wins and is able to run the table, they have a solid chance of playing in the BCS National Championship Game, particularly if Oklahoma State loses to Oklahoma on December 3.

Mark Brunell Is $25 Million In Debt?

Mark Brunell bankruptMark Brunell is the backup quarterback for the New York Jets, behind Mark Sanchez.  He has played for five NFL teams during his 17-year career.  Despite earning close to $50 million in pro football, he plans to retire and get a job after this season because he's broke.

Brunell has said that he plans to take a job in medical sales after the Jets finish their season.

The FOX affiliate in Jacksonville, where Brunell started for eight years, has reported that he made bad business investments in real estate and restaurants. Last year, he filed for bankruptcy.

When Brunell’s investments failed, he tried to cover the loans with his own cash. He now faces six lawsuits and could owe creditors $25 million. The 41-year-old is the father of four children.

Hopefully, the school’s media guide includes pronunciation tips.

Upset Alerts in Manhattan & Charlotte

Kansas State five-point underdog vs Texas A&M7-2 Kansas State hosts 5-4 Texas A&M and is a five-point underdog to the Aggies. The Wildcats have been the surprise team of the Big 12 all season and are very tough to beat in the Little Apple, going 4-1 this year in Manhattan. Kansas State is 7-1 against the spread in their last eight contests, while the Aggies are 1-7.  Look for coach Bill Snyder to work his magic once again.

The Tennessee Titans are a 3 1/2 point road dog against the Carolina Panthers and Cam Newton. The 4-4 Titans desperately need the win if they want to stay in playoff contention and they will win, but just barely in a low-scoring game.

Houston Nutt Makes A Poor Career Move

Houston Nutt firedNo one should have been surprised when Mississippi fired embattled head coach Houston Nutt, who will be allowed to coach the Rebels through the end of the season.

An Arkansas native, Nutt got the head coaching job at his home state's University of Arkansas.  His nine-year stint with the Razorbacks produced a record of 75-48, but Nutt surprisingly bolted across the state line after the 2007 season, amid several controversies, for a similar position at Ole Miss.

Now, Nutt has been fired after losing 12 straight SEC games at Mississippi, setting a dubious school record.  Meanwhile, Arkansas and head coach Bobby Petrino is doing just fine, with a record of 8-1. The Razorbacks may even end up in a BCS bowl game.

Nutt's next league loss comes on November 19, when the Rebels host #1 LSU.
