No one should have been surprised when Mississippi fired embattled head coach Houston Nutt, who will be allowed to coach the Rebels through the end of the season.
An Arkansas native, Nutt got the head coaching job at his home state's University of Arkansas. His nine-year stint with the Razorbacks produced a record of 75-48, but Nutt surprisingly bolted across the state line after the 2007 season, amid several controversies, for a similar position at Ole Miss.
Now, Nutt has been fired after losing 12 straight SEC games at Mississippi, setting a dubious school record. Meanwhile, Arkansas and head coach Bobby Petrino is doing just fine, with a record of 8-1. The Razorbacks may even end up in a BCS bowl game.
Nutt's next league loss comes on November 19, when the Rebels host #1 LSU.
