A world record was set at the Kansas Relays in Lawrence on Saturday, but it was not on the track or in the field.
Athletes and spectators paid $1, or donated canned food, in exchange for a massive serving of nachos, helping to set a record according to a judge from the Guinness Book of World Records who was present.
The grand total was 4,689 pounds of pure nachos, on an 80-foot plate. The tasty feast included more than 1,200 pounds of ground beef and 230 pounds of dip.
Roughly 70 percent of the meal was consumed during the day.
Proceeds from the festivities were donated to the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen, a local food bank and charity which provides meals to low income families.
