Kurt Warner rides off into the Arizona sunset

Friday, at a news conference in Tempe, Arizona, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner announced his retirement from the NFL. Warner played for the Rams, Giants and Cardinals during his 12-year career.

Warner was the starting QB in three Super Bowls, two with the Rams and one with the Cardinals. He set the record for the most single game passing yards in Super Bowl history, when the Rams defeated the Titans 23-16 in Super Bowl XXXIV.  Amazingly, the three most prolific passing performances in Super Bowl history, all belong to Warner in his three Super Bowl starts.  He has a Super Bowl career record of 1-2. Warner is also a two-time NFL regular season MVP.

Obama mixes it up with the Lakers & Wildcats

Tonight, President Obama will give his first State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress and the American people.  In the days leading up to the speech, Mr. Obama has involved himself in the world of sports by speaking with the Los Angeles Lakers and Kentucky Wildcats.

While in Washington to play the Wizards, the NBA Champion Lakers made their way to the White House.  The practice of defending league champions meeting the President has become an American sports tradition. Monday, it was the Lakers who came knocking on the door of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Continual disappointment follows the Minnesota Vikings

Though only being in existence since 1961, the Minnesota Vikings are quickly reaching the distinction of being called a cursed franchise.  The team's plight is so unique because generally the Vikings are a good team.  As a result, their disappointments tend to take place on a more frequent and larger scale.

Dating back to the 1970's, the Vikings became the first team to lose four Super Bowls.  Reaching the big game four times in seven years is quite an accomplishment.  Losing all four of these games is an even greater accomplishment.

Colts and Saints punch their tickets for Miami

After four preseason games, 16 regular season games and three rounds of playoffs, the Super Bowl matchup is finally set.  The AFC Champion Indianapolis Colts will face the NFC Champion New Orleans Saints, February 7 in Miami.

The Colts capped their stellar season by defeating the New York Jets 30-17, after trailing 17-6 in the 2nd quarter.  NFL MVP Peyton Manning threw for 377 yards and 3 TD. 

The Colts will appear in the Super Bowl for the second time in four years. They defeated the Chicago Bears 29-17 in Super Bowl XLI.  Ironically, the game also took place in Miami.

Brett Favre looking for some home cookin' in New Orleans

In Sunday's marquee NFL matchup, the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints will battle for the NFC Championship. The Saints are seeking their first ever trip to the Super Bowl, while the Vikings are playing for their first "big game" appearance since 1977.

After a weekend of mostly lopsided football games, the NFL's version of the final four is set.  The first game will match the New York Jets and the Indianapolis Colts in America's heartland.

In an interview with People Magazine, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama took a moment to discuss the television viewing habits of the first family.  Without question, one of their answers resulted in a loud ovation heard throughout the hallways of ESPN's headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut.

Kansas City becoming New England West

Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs hired former Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel to be their defensive coordinator.  This announcement takes place one week after the Chiefs appointed former Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis, offensive coordinator.  Both Crennel and Weis served in identical capacities for the New England Patriots, during the Pat's three Super Bowl victories in the early 2000's.

Lane Kiffin to succeed Pete Carroll at USC

Multiple media sources are reporting that University of Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin has agreed to become head coach of the USC Trojans. Kiffin will be replacing his former mentor Pete Carroll, who was introduced as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday. Kiffin served as an assistant at USC from 2001-2006.
