2012 Destroys The Box Office... is Robert Pattinson Next?
Disaster flick "2012" destroyed the competition - including Michael Jackson and Jim Carrey - at the box office this weekend.
In the process, the apocalyptic thriller has officially recorded the single biggest box office opening in history for a non-franchise feature film.
Selling a reported $225 million in tickets around the world in its first weekend, "2012" is now seen as possessing the momentum needed to similarly thwart "New Moon" at the box office next weekend when the second installment of the Twilight Saga debuts.
Or can Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner succeed where Michael Jackson and Jim Carrey failed in dramatic fashion?
"2012," which chronicles the Mayan calendar's end-of-days prophecy to illustrate how the world would end if such a prediction were proven correct, could similarly cause disaster for "New Moon," a much-hyped film that, until now, was expected to have a clear path to box office glory.
That plan may now be derailed as the "2012" frenzy sweeps the globe.
"New Moon" will face off against "2012" beginning this Friday, November 20th.
