Multiple media sources are reporting that University of Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin has agreed to become head coach of the USC Trojans. Kiffin will be replacing his former mentor Pete Carroll, who was introduced as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday. Kiffin served as an assistant at USC from 2001-2006.   

The 34-year old Kiffin has bounced around the football world since leaving USC.  He served as head coach of the Oakland Raiders during the 2007 season and four games into the 2008 season.  He was fired by enigmatic Raiders owner Al Davis after compiling a 5-15 record.

Kiffin became head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers prior to the 2009 college football season.  He finished his first year in Knoxville with a record of 7-6. Kiffin's tenure in the SEC will be remembered more for his "war of words" with Florida coach Urban Meyer than anything that took place on the field.

Kiffin's return to Los Angeles ends USC's quick and aggressive search for Carroll's replacement.  The school had reportedly been turned down by Oregon St. coach Mike Riley, as well as Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher and Jacksonville Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio. Fisher and Del Rio are both USC alums.
