Being a huge baseball fan, I attended the 2010 All-Star Game FanFest at the Anaheim Convention Center. Throughout the event, there were many current and former players signing autographs and appearing on different media sets. I happened to walk past the MLB.com set, when I saw Frank Thomas on stage being interviewed for one of their audio telecasts.
I was so impressed with Thomas because he must have spent 90 minutes on stage answering questions from the hosts and from the audience. I would say that a full hour of his time was spent interacting with the fans. He refused to leave the set until every interested fan had the opportunity to speak with him. The hosts kept asking if he had time for more questions, with his answer always being yes. Thomas answered questions about baseball, music and even one regarding any interest in running for public office. I was tremendously impressed with the time and attention he provided to the fans. This was not a 10 minute athlete spot with them running out the door right after. He spent as much time as was needed to give the fans the full experience.
The Big Hurt was the man at FanFest!
