I was driving east on Olympic Blvd in Beverly Hills at about 3:00 PM PT, during the afternoon of Game 7 of the NBA Finals.  Suddenly, several police motorcycles halted traffic to lead an orange bus onto Olympic Blvd from El Camino Drive.  I remembered reading Wednesday’s iFollo story about how the Celtics were staying at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. The story also showed photos of the team boarding the very same bus I saw enter the road. Since the hotel was just a few blocks from where I was driving, I thought this has to be the Celtics. 

I decided to drive to the hotel to see if anything else was going on.  As I drove past the Beverly Wilshire, I saw yet another orange bus.  The bus was surrounded by a combination of screaming fans and a large number of police motorcycles, police cars and other security personal.  The level of both onlookers and security was crazy.  You would have thought President Obama was about to depart the hotel.  

My guess is that the first bus was carrying family and the remaining bus was for the players.  Why else would so many fans and police still be present at the hotel?  It’s a good thing the team had a police escort, because judging by the traffic I had just experienced, it could have been a long ride to Downtown LA, without the help of the law.

Some people may take issue with an NBA team needing a police escort.  I don’t have such an issue with this.  There is literally thousands of people at Staples Center and millions of people around the world basing their night on this game, particularly in New England and Southern California.  If the players are late, then everything is screwed up.  So, for Game 7 of the NBA Finals, this is just fine with me.
