Radio isn't exactly a job that pays well! Take for example my yearly salary at my first full time job at a radio station. It was in Lima, Ohio...a dirty little stain on the "Heart Of It All," and I was hired in at a whopping 17,500 dollars per year! What radio lacks for in monetary gain, is far exceeded by the rewards of the job. My first interview ever with a musician happened during my time in Lima, and it's an experience that I will never forget. I had lined up an interview with Meat Loaf! I was really excited and nervous. The interview was going to be over the phone Anxiously watching the clock, I saw the hand land on where it needed to be for Meat Loaf's phone call. The interview hotline in the studio began lighting up. I cleared my throat and said..."This is Andy!" A young sounding gentleman on the other end said "Mr. Green, I have Meat Loaf on the line and I'm connecting you now!" That phrase itself is monumental!! After a clicking sound, a familiar voice said to me.."Hi Andy!" It being my first interview, I had went all out and prepared questions and everything. There was absolutely no need for this as Meat Loaf is the single most eccentric celebrity I have ever interviewed. I didn't know what he was gonna say! He was really nice, and super hilarious! I was cracking up almost the entire time! I asked him about his appearance with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra that he had recently done. He said "Ya know Andy, It was a lot like a turkey sandwich...Do you like mayo on your turkey sandwich Andy?!" Without hesitation I replied I love mayonnaise on a good turkey sandwich!" I am pretty sure he liked that I would roll with his craziness, and we had an awesome 10 minute conversation. Meat Loaf freakin' rules!!
