Desmond Jennings is an outfielder for the Tampa Bay Rays, playing in his second full season. Jennings, a Birmingham, Alabama native, was originally drafted by the Cleveland Indians in 2005, before deciding to attend junior college, where he competed in both football and baseball. In 2006, Jennings went back into the draft and was selected by the Rays in the tenth round.
After spending a few years in the minor leagues, Jennings was called up in late July of last season and made an immediate impact, as he hit 10 long balls, drove in 25 runs and stole 20 bases. Those numbers helped the Rays erase a nine-game deficit in September, overtaking the Red Sox for the American League Wild Card, on the last day of the 2011 campaign.
Above is an iFolloSports.com original video of Jennings signing autographs for a group of fans. This interaction took place outside of the W Hotel in downtown Minneapolis last Friday, a few hours prior to the Rays 12-6 victory over the Minnesota Twins. In that game, Jennings went 3-4, with three runs scored and an RBI.
