This weekend, the Pac-10 Basketball Tournament is being played at the Staples Center in LA. The JW Marriott at LA Live, located across the street from the arena, seems to always be busy when big events are taking place at Staples. Because of this, I decided to go check things out. It turned out that the hotel is serving as Pac-10 headquarters, during the event. Among the first people I saw was UCLA alum Don MacLean, the Pac-10’s all-time leading scorer. He now broadcasts for both UCLA and the Clippers. MacLean was a very popular guy around the hotel lobby, shaking hands and saying hello to a lot of people. On a very warm day in LA, MacLean looked very Californian, wearing shorts and a tee shirt. Later that night, I saw that MacLean was part of the event’s broadcast crew. He was dressed a bit better than when I saw him earlier in the day.
