You all know who Gallagher is, he is that whacked out comedian, from the 70’s-80’s, that smashes watermelons. Something Dave Chappell lampooned on his show, and I asked Gallagher about David Chappell making fun of his act, he didn’t like it.

I was a News Guy, at NEWS TALK 970 WKHM, in Jackson Michigan, when I heard Gallagher was going to be performing at Jackson Community College, I pulled some strings and got some press passes (do you think I’d pay to see Gallagher), all I had to do was a quick phone interview to help promote the show. We talked about a few things, but he was disturbed at the time that Comedy Central would air Chappell making fun of him, but none of his specials. The interview was kind of lame, so I told him I see him at the show, and wrapped it up.

So the night of the show, I get shown to the backstage, where Gallagher was preparing, honestly I should have gotten there sooner, he was just about to go on, he was kind of ranting and raving, at the few other people back there, he then asked me if I had been to a local restaurant, it had just opened that weekend, and I hadn’t heard of it, he then said he didn’t think I was a reporter, if I didn’t know about this restaurant. I asked him if I could roll tape and ask a few questions, he said, “No, we did that earlier.”

So that was kind of it, but it got a little stranger, he told me to follow him and he would answer questions, nobody was showing him to the stage, and he got lost, I was just getting ready to ask him a few questions, when he started screaming, “where’s the goddamn stage!” at that point, I found my way out. Honestly I thought Gallagher might have had a few too many at the New Restaurant, but he went out and put on a really good show. I forgot to mention, I was already a bit of a fan, ya’ gotta love smashing’ fruit.
