In 1999, I believe it was, in the fall sometime, Green Day was out touring to promote their latest album. Having met the guys many years before when they were in the area in 1994 doing a free show and pushing their landmark Dookie, it was cool to know that the same three dudes were still together - the Dirntster, Billie Joe and Tre were surviving and returning to be at the station for a quickie visit.
It was a nice in-studio session with the boys, and they showed up with a couple of record company handlers, they immediately went about talking on the air promoting the record and doing the same old kind of thing that usually happens - a lot of talk about making the record, the new songs, etc.
They talked for a while, as you can see from the pic, were casually dressed, and took time for several photos afterward, one of which is enclosed here.
I thought they were cool. I did not feel they were exceptionally cool, though, and somewhat reserved. It was nice they even did the pics, as they're a big band, and can easily blow that off. They were friendly, cordial, did as they were asked, and moved on their way.
I felt good for getting the pic, and enjoyed sharing it with some of the BCN/ZLX radio cats who were and still are among my closest biz friends from that era/those stations. It's nice to have Bill Abbate and Carter Alan locked in moment with me, and all of Green Day, at the historic WBCN, in the air studio. It was a treat to share and talk about here on ifollo.
