Well, I was a waitress at a rock and roll night club called Rockers in Phoenix (AZ-USA) back in I'm guessing 1983 or 1984 or so. The club was pretty cool, always packed most days M-Su because they had live hard rock music and the bands were always very high quality.
One of the weekend nights, a band (I think) named Madame-X was scheduled to play. They were a favorite, their band was extremely tight and they played all Priest covers, rocking the house down every time. I was serving drinks when the band hit the stage and announced a very special guest appearance. My jaw just about dropped when Halford walked out on stage and began screaming out Priest songs with the band. The place went completely nuts.
Needless to say work that night was a piece of cake, very fun and exciting as most nights were anyways - but in this case even more so. The man is just SUCH a performer, just top class unbelievably so. Metal heads that night will NEVER forget him dropping in and rocking us out like that. That's what it's all about, you know? Not just distant concert venues, but up close and personal. There were maybe 300-350 people there.
When the club emptied out at 1AM (or was it 3AM for afterhours...?), there was Halford sitting in a 2 person table in front of the bar. My boss told me to go over there and see if he wanted anything. I was like "OMG!!! That's Rob Halford!!!" but I did it anyways.
Rob is actually a blasting metal God onstage, but a very polite, kind of shy, and respectful man offstage. I just remember him being quiet and getting a sense that he was very kind. He was just an ordinary man after the stage lights went down. He was in his leather, looking so cool - but made me feel as much at ease as a rock star can lol.
I haven't a clue what I served him that night, food I think... but I will never forget seeing him larger than life sitting there after such a killer show.
I was a shy little thing in those days, so I'm sure he got a chuckle at my nervousness. He was probably used to that. Thanks Rick, for that job, and for that opportunity. THAT was the most fun and easiest job I ever had!
