Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant is one of the greatest superstars in all of sports at the present time. The two-time defending NBA scoring champion has propelled OKC to the league’s best record (16-3), while averaging 26.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game during this early, lockout-shortened season.
Entering Monday night’s game vs. the Los Angeles Clippers, the Thunder are winners of four straight.
After the team’s 120-109 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Friday, Durant and company traveled from the Bay Area to Los Angeles for an extended stay, prior to heading to Dallas for Wednesday’s game against the Mavericks.
During road trips to LA, OKC bases itself in the coastal city of Santa Monica, located 15 miles west of the Staples Center, which is located in downtown Los Angeles. Monday afternoon, the Thunder held shootaround at Santa Monica High School.
Despite the existence of the team charter bus right outside of the gym entrance, most of the Thunder players elected to walk down Pico Boulevard, back to the team’s hotel, after the workout’s conclusion.
One of the players seen making the half mile stroll was the great Kevin Durant. Void of any semblance of an entourage, the 6-9 megastar was wearing Thunder gear, with a jersey tied around his neck.
Shocked by the sighting of the glasses wearing sharpshooter, I hopped out of my car and asked if he would pose for a photo with me. Without hesitation, the Texas alum said sure.
Durant appears to be the most down-to-earth, unaffected sports star in the country. He was even gracious when allowing me to retake the photo, because the first one was impacted by our massive height differential.

This is far from the first time Durant has given a minute of his time to fans. Take a look at iFollowSports.com original pieces of video from a road trip to Minneapolis last season and a more recent LA summer league game.
Folks in Oklahoma City are extremely lucky!
Is there an easier guy to root for in the NBA than Kevin Durant?
