In the midst of a three-game Eastern road swing, the Los Angeles Lakers found themselves in Detroit for the Thanksgiving holiday. The team had Turkey Day off, before taking on the Pistons, the following evening. With the club spending the holiday away from LA, Laker legend Kobe Bryant hosted Thanksgiving dinner for the team’s traveling party, in the ballroom of a suburban Detroit hotel.
A Michigan based iFolloSports.com contributor happened to be in the building, while the dinner was taking place, and sent along the above photo of he and Kobe, as well as pictures of the all-time great with other fans. Kobe had heard that some people in the hotel were interested in meeting him, and in the Thanksgiving spirit, the recent recipient of a two-year/$48.5 million contract headed out to the hallway to interact with folks.
Perhaps the offerings of a full Thanksgiving meal galvanized the Lakers, as the Kobe-less team would go on to take down the “home for the holiday” Pistons, 106-102.
