The first actual experience at a live NASCAR race, was definitely a memorable one. I remember the day was extremely rainy and crappy. It was very exciting getting to walk around the garage area. I got too see all the cars up close. It was sweet to see all the work that goes into those cars before a race. Walking around back there also allows you to walk by all of the haulers where the drivers are kicking it.
I was walking around just seeing if I could take any cool pictures for the station. I had managed to take a ton. I got blurry shots of Jeff Gordon. I got a photo of the top of Dale Juniors forehead. My camera died, and I figured I could call my picture taking day to an end. I had really been getting down on the free refreshments that were provided to the media, and I really needed to use the facility. On my frantic run to the restroom I see a tall, skinny guy walking my way, from a distance. As he got closer I realized it was NASCAR legend Richard Petty. I tried getting a photo of him with my camera on my cellphone but it didn't come out. He was smiling big, the entire time he was walking. I learned that day that smiling all the time is creepy...unless you are a millionaire like Richard Petty!
