New York Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher is widely known as the class clown of the Bronx Bombers. The perceived “Yankee Way” involves the practice of maintaining a level of seriousness at all times. Swisher does not really operate in this manner and fans seem to love him for doing so.

Swisher joined the Yankees prior to the 2009 season, contributing 29 homeruns to the team’s ’09 championship season. Always considered a happy-go-lucky ballplayer, the Swisher personality has come to the forefront due to his sheer happiness with being a Yankee and because he plays amid the bright lights of the New York City market.

Whether conducting a media interview, standing in the batter’s box, interacting with fans or during his many charity appearances, Swisher appears to love every minute of his professional life. After witnessing Swisher at the Yankees’ Orange County (CA) hotel, it is reassuring to know that the man is far from a phony.

Swisher and teammate Russell Martin were seen entering The Island Hotel in Newport Beach, California. The two men were arriving back from lunch, a few hours prior to their series opener vs. the Angels. Upon entering the building, Swisher immediately said hello to the doormen, shaking hands and joking around with them about where the players had just eaten. Shortly after, Swisher was seen having the same level of joyful conversation with other members of the hotel staff. Amazingly, a few minutes later, Swisher was walking through the lobby by himself, with a huge grin on his face.  This guy is genuinely happy all the time it seems.

Nick Swisher deserves credit for being a breath of fresh air in the sometimes stuffy world of professional sports.
