Shortly before Derek Jeter and Andruw Jones were spotted at the Newport Fashion Island shopping mall on Tuesday afternoon, New York Yankee great Andy Pettitte and his wife Laura were seen having a conversation with spirited New York outfielder Nick Swisher and his wife Joanna.
The respective couples bumped into each other for a couple minute chat, but were actually walking separately throughout their visit to the retail/dining center, located directly across the street from the Island Hotel, the Yankees property of choice when stopping though Orange County to play the Los Angeles Angels.
Pettitte, Tuesday night’s starting pitcher, would later give up five runs and nine hits, over seven innings of work, as the Yankees went down to the Angels 5-1.
In person, Pettitte is a noticeably large man. Dressed in shorts and a tee shirt, the 6-5, 225 pound lefty looked great for a 39-year-old, once retired player. The Houston area resident and his wife of nearly 20 years were casually strolling around the lush outdoor mall, seven hours prior to first pitch.
The 31-year-old Swisher, who was all smiles and full of joy, as always appears to be the case, was casually enjoying the warm Southern California day with his wife of two years.
The Columbus (OH) native went 1-4, with an RBI, in the evening’s four- run loss to LA.
