Saturday, iFolloSports.com was on hand for the 2013 Timberwolves Shootout, at the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis. The shootout featured four games matching up top teams from Minnesota and a group of respected out-of-state programs. The day’s main event involved Robbinsdale Cooper High School (New Hope, MN) and Apple Valley High School (Apple Valley, MN). The marquee players in this contest were not only the state of Minnesota's top prospects, but two of the country’s very best. Cooper’s Rashad Vaughn is currently ranked number 10, with Apple Valley’s Tyus Jones ranked as the nation’s top junior player.
Blue-chip players of this quality bring out the best coaches and scouts from college basketball, with legendary North Carolina Tar Heels coach Roy Williams and Minnesota Golden Gophers coach Tubby Smith serving as Saturday’s most high profile examples of this.
Above is iFolloSports.com original video of Williams and Smith posing for pictures and signing autographs for some young fans, during halftime of the main event game.
Both coaches have combined to win three national championships, while also being members of the 500-win club. Smith's 500th came last month at USC, with iFolloSports.com providing behind the scenes coverage of the feat.
Williams and Smith are not the only big name college coaches to catch a glimpse of Jones, this school year. Check out this iFolloSports.com original story and video showcasing legendary Duke Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski and Kansas Jayhawks coach Bill Self, taking time out of their schedules to scout the spectacular junior guard.
