Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland was seen in the lobby of the Marriott City Center, in downtown Minneapolis early Friday afternoon. Leyland was carrying a briefcase and appeared to be on his way to Target Field for Friday night’s game against the Minnesota Twins.
Leyland, like many Major League managers, prefers getting to the ballpark very early, in order to prepare for that evening’s game. Here are further examples of iFollowSports reports chronicling prominent managers leaving early for games.
The first story involved St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa. La Russa was leaving the Cardinals’ Pasadena, California hotel, well before a game at Dodger Stadium earlier this season.
The second story took place a few days before Friday’s Leyland encounter, involving Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington, leaving several hours before a game at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California.
