Although I have been no stranger to meeting celebrities and other well-known personalities during my various travels and professional ventures, I have only found myself truly starstruck on but a few occasions.

On the afternoon of the TCAs in Los Angeles a few years ago, I spotted from a distance one of Hollywood's most beautiful leading ladies - Portia de Rossi, best known for her work on Ally McBeal and Arrested Development. In 2008, Portia married Ellen Degeneres.

Needless to say, seeing Portia de Rossi in person promptly inspired me to introduce myself (and grovel if necessary to get a picture with her). Fortunately, she was incredibly gracious, so groveling wasn't necessary.

But despite being utterly enarmored with the beautiful actress, it's safe to say the feeling wasn't mutual. I was so tongue tied and twitterpated by Portia de Rossi that when introducing myself I said: "Hello, Michael. I'm Portia."

Obviously aware that my nerves caused me to reverse my name with hers, Portia was kind enough not to laugh at me. But I'm sure she did after I left. And, truth be told, I can't blame her if she did. After all, I've been laughing at myself ever since.
