Last night, I attended a rally at UCLA for California gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown and lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Gavin Newsom.  Like many of the attendees, the main reason I decided to go was because former President Clinton was to be the keynote speaker of the event.  The three men came out together, with Newsom speaking first, followed by Brown, then the President. Bill Clinton’s ability to command a crowd is truly incredible.  He was introduced to thunderous applause from the assembled group of mainly younger people.  The crowd’s enthusiasm continued during Clinton’s speech, as the audience was practically hanging on his every word. After Clinton’s speech concluded, the theatrics really began.  The entire audience started to yell and scream for Clinton’s attention in hopes that he would come over to shake their hands.  Every area Clinton walked towards, swarms of people would run in that direction as if he was a Beatle. Clinton, to his credit, spent a lot of time in these different areas, making sure he could engage as many people as possible.  He even made his way beyond the barrier gates to say hello to supporters.  I’m sure the accompanying Secret Service was not pleased with that decision.  Everyone seemed to want a piece of the former President. It’s amazing to witness his popularity among younger voters.  He is truly a rock star. Take a look at the video I captured of him from just a couple feet away.  This was right before I had the opportunity to shake his hand. You would have thought the Jonas Brothers were in town.  In actuality, the man receiving the screams was a 64-year old retired President.  Amazing!
