Behind The Scenes At The 2016 Ryder Cup (Photos)

Behind The Scenes At The 2016 Ryder Cup This weekend, the 41st Ryder Cup will take place at Hazeltine National Golf Club, in the Twin Cities suburb of Chaska, Minnesota. This prestigious Robert Trent Jones course is located about 25 miles southwest of downtown Minneapolis. The Ryder Cup is one of the biggest events in golf, pairing the United States against Europe, in a match play competition. It is essentially the Olympics for the sport of golf, more so than the golf event played at the recent Rio games, which was an individual (stoke play) event.

The 2016 Ryder Cup brings out some of the biggest players in the sport, including Rory Mcllroy, Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth. While not participating due to his ongoing back injury, Tiger Woods is on hand serving as a vice-captain.

The Ryder Cup is a biennial gathering that rotates between the U.S. and Europe, appearing on each continent every four years. It is very special for each hosting course and area, because venues will likely only host the event one time. This will be the seventh major tournament held at Hazeltine, including four PGA, three LPGA and one Champions tour event. The most recent major played at Hazeltine was the 2009 PGA Championship.
