Chelsea & Manchester City Collectively Shock The Soccer World

Chelsea & Manchester City Collectively Shock The Soccer WorldChelsea had a very disappointing season in the English Premier League, finishing a subpar sixth place.

However, the Blues from southwest London advanced through the rounds of the European Champions League, scoring a massive upset over Barcelona in the semifinals and advancing to the final against heavily favored Bayern Munich.

The widely viewed match was played Saturday at the Bavarian capital city’s Allianz Arena.

Bayern dominated play throughout, finally breaking the scoreless tie late, only to see Chelsea equalize on a header by Didier Drogba, with two minutes remaining.

There was no scoring in the 30 minutes of extra time that followed.

The run, which has been known for public drunkenness, bizarre costumes and even nudity, will look a little different this year.

Baseball’s Best Team Resides In Baltimore?

Orioles 14 consecutive losing seasonsThe Baltimore Orioles defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-3 Thursday night, improving their record to 25-14, heading into Friday’s interleague matchup versus the Washington Nationals.

With the victory, Baltimore became the first team in the Major Leagues to win 25 games.

The Birds are a stunning 13-5 on the road.

Baltimore was the preseason choice to finish last in the AL East. Meanwhile, the traditional powers from New York and Boston are fourth and fifth respectively at the quarter pole and are fighting it out for last place.

Do you think even Buck Showalter can believe this?

Former Oregon RB Explains What Life Is Like In Eugene

Oregon Ducks and marijuanaLast month, ESPN the Magazine published a lengthy exposé on the state of the University of Oregon football program.

The Ducks are being investigated by the NCAA for illegal payments to a scouting service in Texas.

In addition, the ESPN article alleges the widespread use of marijuana on the football team and stated that former Duck players agreed with the statement that 40 to 60 percent of the team had smoked marijuana at some point.

Former Oregon tailback Reuben Droughns, who later played for four NFL teams, understood what the problem was in Eugene and did not seem too shocked by the charges.

Stephon Marbury Immortalized In China

Stephon Marbury statue in BeijingFormer NBA All-Star Stephon Marbury is getting a career makeover in China.

Marbury signed to play in the country back in 2010. This season, he led the lowly Beijing Ducks to their first Chinese championship in 30 years, defeating the Guangdong Southern Tigers, a seven-time league winner, in the finals.

Now, a life-sized bronze statue of Marbury has been unveiled at the MasterCard Center (Ducks home court & 2008 Olympic basketball venue) in western Beijing.

The “work of art” was financed by the website hupu.com.  Hupu promised to build the statue if Marbury received one million votes in an online poll.

The inspired Padres went on to defeat the Colorado Rockies 3-1, improving their 2012 record to 11-20.

Unfortunately, the last place team has only won one game since.

News & Notes From The First Round Of The NBA Playoffs

Clippers win first ever Game 7Both NBA teams, who play their home games at Staples Center in Los Angeles, advanced to the Western Conference semifinals, when the Lakers held off the Denver Nuggets 96-87 at home Saturday and the Clippers, as an eight-point underdog, shocked the Grizzlies 82-72 in Memphis Sunday.

Both wins took place in game 7’s of the quarterfinal round.

The Clippers won a game 7 for the first time ever, capturing only their third playoff series in franchise history.

LAC’s win was even more stunning when considering that home teams have won 10 of the past 13 game 7’s, with 9 of them won by 10 or more points.

Despite the suddenly glamorous nature of the Clippers, oddsmakers in Las Vegas remain unimpressed.
