Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis won an uncontested New Jersey Democratic State Senate primary this week, but the sprinter still has hurdles to clear before his name appears on the ballot in November's general election, against incumbent Republican State Senator Dawn Marie Addiego. At question is whether or not Lewis, who has spent most of his adult life living in California, is a New Jersey resident. Lewis lived in Willingboro, New Jersey for his first 18 years, before going to the University of Houston on a track scholarship. He continued to vote in California until registering in New Jersey last April. A federal court ruled that Lewis could stay on the primary ballot while the issue is being sorted out.
