Catholic School Rivalry Impacted By Jewish Holiday?

Chaminade and Notre Dame are two of the strongest Catholic high school programs in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. The powerhouse programs knocked heads in a much anticipated showdown Friday night. One problem, the Chaminade Eagles have a sizeable population of Jewish students (more than 100), so some members of the team were not able to play on their home blue turf, due to their observance of Yom Kippur.
Chaminade coach Ed Croson claims he did not realize this until some of his players told him they would not participate in the game and by then, it was too late to change the date.
In what turned out to be a thrilling game, Chaminade scored two TD's in the final two minutes, defeating Notre Dame 36-32.
