Columbian Soccer Coach Punches Female Fan
By Bruce Tenen - Tue, 2011-08-16 14:00
Hernan Dario Gomez is the coach of the national soccer team of Colombia, or at least he was until last week.
Colombia had fared poorly in the South American championships (the Copa America) and Gomez was getting skewered by the media.
The coach was at a bar in Bogota last Wednesday, when the woman he was with began heckling him for his tactics and strategy. So, the 55-year-old Gomez punched her in the face.
Women's groups began demanding he leave his position and three days later, he was forced out by the national federation. He apologized for the incident and admitted that he had "lost control" during the argument. The association added that he "assumed the consequences of his acts."
