Enough Of This College Football Signing Day Nonsense?
By Bruce Tenen - Thu, 2012-02-09 16:09
It sounds like Mike Bianchi, the outstanding columnist for the Orlando Sentinel, has had quite enough of football signing day in SEC country. Last week he wrote:
"I'm not saying I've been inundated with college football recruiting talk this week, but when my daughter asked me the other day if I would help her with her homework, I gave her a 'soft verbal."
A “soft verbal” is when a high school recruit gives a school a nonbinding verbal declaration of his intention to play ball there, while continuing to actively visit other campuses on official recruiting visits.
In other words, when a player declares his interest in a given school, prior to actually signing a National Letter of Intent, it means absolutely positively nothing.
