Friday night, Philadelphia hosts Golden State it what would appear to be just another mundane, mid season NBA game. But, it is actually a game of great historic importance. 

March 2 is the fiftieth anniversary of Wilt Chamberlain's100-point game in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The Warriors and 76ers are two of the three NBA teams Wilt played for, along with the Los Angeles Lakers.

On March 2, 1962 Wilt tallied 100 for the old Philadelphia Warriors, as they routed the Knicks 169-147. Wilt, a notoriously poor free thrower, who shot only 51 percent from the line for his career, sunk 28 of 32 foul shots, while connecting on 36 of 63 from the field.    

His performance is considered one of the greatest in basketball history.  

Wilt averaged 50.4 points per game during that 1961-62 season, yet another mind-boggling record.

Amazingly, the momentous game was not televised and only an audio tape remains. The Hershey Sports Arena was about half full (attendance of 4,124) and no members of the New York media were present at the game. 

The 76ers have obtained the original court in Hershey and fans attending the anniversary game will receive a special mounted 2x2 piece of the court.  The rest of the floor will be placed in the Naismith Hall of Fame, the 76ers practice facility, as well as in Hershey, where the Warriors played some of their "home" games in 1962.
