Kim Rhode Shoots Her Way Into Olympic Record Books

Kim Rhode three gold medalsKim Rhode became the first American to medal in five consecutive Olympic Games, by capturing the gold medal last weekend in skeet shooting, tying the world record by hitting 99 of 100 targets. The US Shooting Federation touted Rhode’s performance as the biggest day in shooting history and it is hard to dispute that.

Rhode, who resides in El Monte, California, became the first woman to win three shooting gold medals.

The 33-year-old won her first shooting gold at the 1996 Atlanta Games, at the age of 17. She then finished first in Athens, during 2004, while winning a silver medal in Beijing (2008) and a bronze in Sydney (2000).

The only remaining question is how long Rhode will continue to compete. Upon capturing her latest gold, the shooting star proclaimed her desire to participate in the 2016 Rio Games.

Her father noted that the oldest Olympic medalist was a shooter, who competed until he was 72.
