Lakers Loss Responsible For $60 Million Shortfall?

Lakers’ fans are quite disappointed by their team’s 4-0 series sweep, courtesy of the Dallas Mavericks. But, local Southern California merchants might be taking the news the hardest. Economist Esmael Adibi of Chapman University in Orange, California, estimated that local businesses would lose more than $60 million because of the Lakers' early ouster from the NBA playoffs. Sports bars and stores that sell Lakers apparel have been noticeably empty since the Lakers' second round elimination. Many of these businesses had planned for a playoff run well into mid-June.
