Olympic Preview Part 4: The Comeback Of Bryshon Nellum

Bryshon Nellum shot in 2008Bryshon Nellum was a high school track star and state 400 champion at Long Beach Poly (CA) before enrolling at USC. He suffered through an injury-plagued freshman season, but still looked to have a very promising career ahead of him.

In 2008, Nellum was leaving a Halloween party near campus, when two gang members mistook him for a rival and shot him in both legs. Bullet fragments lodged in his left quadriceps and right hamstring muscles. Doctors were unsure if he would be able to run (or even walk) again.

After three surgeries, Nellum began running well this year, winning the Pac-12 400 title.

Last weekend, he finished third in the US Olympic Trials, with a lifetime best mark of 44.80 seconds in the 400.

His comeback now complete, Nellum will represent the USA in London in the 400 meters and the 1600-meter relay.

Stay turned to see if Nellum will add yet another chapter to his already improbable story.
