Olympic Preview Part 9: Tokyo The Leading Candidate To Host 2020 Games

Tokyo The Leading Candidate To Host 2020 OlympicsThe International Olympic Committee (IOC) trimmed the field of candidate cities for the 2020 Olympics to three, after eliminating Doha and Baku late last month.

One of the early favorites, Rome, dropped out of the running earlier this year.

The eventual winner will be announced in September of 2013, at an IOC Meeting in Buenos Aires.

London bookmakers have established Tokyo as a heavy even money favorite for 2020 host.

Madrid is second choice at 2-1, while Istanbul trails among the final three at 3-1.

Baku and Doha were originally posted as joint long shots at 14-1, before they were excused.

Rome was listed at 2-1, before its withdrawal.

Tokyo hosted the 1964 Olympic Games, but the event has never been held in Madrid or Istanbul.

The 2016 Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro.
