Random Thoughts From The Sports Weekend That Was

Case Keenum nine touchdowns vs RiceThe Florida Gators have lost four consecutive conference games for the first time since 1979, as the Gators came from ahead to lose to archrival Georgia. The hot seat under Bulldogs coach Mark Richt cooled a little as a result, but Georgia is still 4-18 against the Gators in their last 22 neutral site meetings in Jacksonville.

Houston quarterback Case Keenum threw nine touchdown passes, as the unbeaten Cougars trounced crosstown rival Rice 73-34. Remarkably, this did not set the school record.  David Klingler tossed for 11 scores in a game back in 1990 for the current NCAA record. NFL scouts are not impressed, as Keenum is slated to be a low round pick in April's draft.

Oklahoma State has started the season 8-0 for the first time since 1945 and a win over Oklahoma in their traditional rivalry could propel the Cowboys into the BCS title game against the winner of the Alabama-LSU titanic this Saturday night. The Cowboys defense ranking 111th nationally, with 455 yards per game allowed, still worries the pundits.

The decisive game seven of the World Series attracted a TV viewership of more than 25 million viewers, the most watched World Series game since 2004 when the Boston Red Sox finally won a championship, ending their 86-year drought.

San Francisco virtually wrapped up the NFC West by topping the Browns 20-10. The 6-1 49ers already have a four-game lead over Seattle.

The other most surprising NFL teams this season are Detroit (6-2), Buffalo (5-2) and Cincinnati (5-2).

The Lions have now won six straight road games and the 45 points they put up against Denver was their most on the road since 1967.

Washington lost to Buffalo 23-0 in Toronto, as Redskins coach Mike Shanahan was shutout for the first time in his 19-year head coaching career.

Tim Tebow is the worst quarterback in the NFL--period.
