UFC Scores Big On FOX
By Bruce Tenen - Wed, 2011-11-16 08:00
FOX television announced that Saturday's UFC debut on network television was the most watched live hour ever for mixed martial arts in the US. The show drew 5.7 million viewers, far surpassing the MMA event shown on CBS in May of 2008, featuring Kimbo Slice.
Saturday's showdown between Oregon and Stanford had a viewership of more than 11 million fans, but FOX did quite well with men in the age group 18-34, outdrawing all college football games this season except LSU vs. Alabama.
Junior dos Santos of Brazil won the UFC heavyweight title belt by knockout after 64 seconds.
The seven-year deal between FOX and the UFC officially begins in January. .
