Buster Posey has come a long way in a short time

Buster PoseySan Francisco Giants catcher/first baseman Buster Posey has burst onto the big league scene.  The fifth pick in the 2008 draft has moved from college star at Florida State, to minor league sensation, to now being a significant contributor to his team’s chase for the National League playoffs.  Entering Thursday’s game vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers, Posey is hitting .324, with 13 HR and 59 RBI, in just 92 games.

Last Saturday marked the one year anniversary of Posey’s Major League debut.  After beginning the 2010 season in the minors, Posey was recalled on May 29 and it certainly appears that he is at AT&T Park to stay.  Since returning to the China Basin, Posey posted a 21-game hitting streak and was awarded National League Player of the Month honors in July.  Aside from his hitting prowess, Posey’s stellar defense has also significantly contributed to the Giants outstanding record.

It is amazing to consider that a little more than a year ago, Posey was still toiling his way through the Class A California League, with the San Jose Giants.  The 50 mile drive from San Jose Municipal Stadium to AT&T Park may as well be a million miles, when considering the different world of baseball that lies at these two ends of the San Francisco Bay.

Below are three pieces of video displaying this situation.

The first piece of footage took place on May 16, 2009 during a San Jose Giants road game vs. the Modesto Nuts.  Take note of the quiet, understated feel of Posey’s pre-San Francisco baseball life.

The two remaining clips took place during Posey’s appearance at the Comcast SportsNet Authentic Postgame BBQ on August 12, 2010 at the Comcast SportsNet studios in the South of Market neighborhood of San Francisco.  In a mere 14 months, Posey has gone from Minor League anonymity to Major League stardom.  The guy who had a few admirers in Modesto now has an immense throng of followers in the City by the Bay.

Life is definitely good for the 23-year old out of Leesburg, Georgia.
