Josh Hamilton showing Rangers fans the love they’ve showed him

Texas Rangers’ OF Josh Hamilton has lived as star-crossed a life as any athlete in sports.  While his all-world talent is limitless, Hamilton’s issues with alcohol and drug addiction have thwarted him in a manner unavailable to most big league pitchers.

After being chosen by the Tampa Bay Rays with the first overall pick in the 1999 MLB Draft, Hamilton’s life spiraled out of control. Years of torment finally came to a conclusion when he debuted with the Cincinnati Reds in 2007.

Following a solid '07 season, Hamilton was traded to the Rangers.  It absolutely appears that the one-time “can’t miss” prospect has finally found a home in Arlington.

Hamilton’s reclamation has been accepted by the fans of North Texas and the rest of baseball.  Hamilton was voted an American League starter for both the 2008 and 2009 All-Star Games.  Hamilton stole the show at the ’08 game, after his record setting homerun derby performance at old Yankee Stadium.

Despite an apparent substance abuse relapse in early 2009, Hamilton does appear to have most of his demons under control.

One thing is certain; Hamilton is very appreciative of the loyalty shown by both the Rangers and their fans.  The below pieces of video show Hamilton taking time to sign autographs for fans during the last two spring trainings in Arizona.

It's just right to always look back. Aside from his talent, his fans is
one of the reasons why he's still playing. A lot of people of all age
admire him from his good acts. And even though his been through alcohol
addiction, I am glad that he's back. The sad part is, a Ranger fan died
during their game last Thursday night in Arlington, Texas. The
enthusiast attempted to catch a foul baseball at a Rangers game. He
slipped and suffered a fatal 20 foot drop. The baseball was tossed by
player Josh Hamilton, who is reportedly troubled over the incident. I
