Sunday’s Notable Oscar Night Parties

The entertainment industry's and the city of Los Angeles’s biggest night of the year has arrived. It is Oscar Night! 

While the award show is clearly the main event of the evening, the many parties offer the greatest opportunity to encounter a Hollywood celeb.  The galas maybe exclusive, but fans can still find their way close to the action.

Below is a look at some of the highest profile events of the evening.  The show will conclude at around 8:30 pm/PT, with the height of the parties set to begin shortly after the award for “Best Picture” is handed out, unless noted.

Be advised that many celebs will make their way between multiple parties throughout the evening.

Agent Norby Walters hosts Oscar viewing/dinner party for celebs not attending award show.  Invitees include: Shia LaBeouf, Penny Marshall, Richard Dreyfus, Laura Dern, Dennis Haysbert, Jennifer Tilly, Norm Macdonald, Camryn Manheim, Rob Schneider and Luke Perry.

 

The Governors Ball

Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland

6801 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles (Adjacent to Kodak Theater, site of award show)

Wolfgang Puck caters the 1,500 guest party honoring the winners and nominees from the evening.  George Clooney, Sandra Bullock, Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Matt Damon, James Cameron and Quentin Tarantino are among the attendees.

 

18th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Benefit

Elton John hosts this charitable gala featuring a musical performance by Grace JonesEllen DeGeneres, David Beckham, Victoria Beckham, Nicole Kidman, Lenny Kravitz , Elizabeth Taylor and many others will be present.

 

Dani Janssen’s Oscar Party

Century Towers – West Tower

2220 Avenue of the Stars. Century City neighborhood of Los Angeles

Wife of the late actor David Janssen hosts this legendary Oscar celebration. Past and probable guests include: Jack Nicholson, Oprah Winfrey, Clint Eastwood, Barbra Streisand, Tom Hanks, Whoopi Goldberg, Harrison Ford, Al Pacino and Steven Spielberg.

 

Vanity Fair Oscar Party

This always epic extravaganza is one of the toughest tickets of the night.  Past and probable guests include: Robert De Niro, Jennifer Aniston, Mick Jagger, Gwen Stefani, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jerry Seinfeld, Halle Berry, Larry David, Sarah Jessica Parker, Daniel Craig, Natalie Portman and numerous others.

Jon Rapoport has spent his career working on all sides of the media and sports industry. He began his career at ESPN in studio production at the ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut. While there, he won an Emmy for his contribution to "SportsCenter." Following his tenure at ESPN, Jon relocated to Los Angeles, joining the staff of the “Best Damn Sports Show” on FOX Sports Net.

Upon leaving the show, Jon worked in Web site and sports radio show development/production, with Major League Baseball in media operation logistics for the World Baseball Classic and on behalf of Los Angeles’ effort to bring the 2016 Summer Olympics back to Southern California. Jon currently writes a political blog for the Los Angeles edition of Examiner.com.

Born and raised in Plymouth, Minnesota (just outside of Minneapolis), Jon is an avid sports fan, particularly for his beloved Minnesota teams. Jon graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned his BA in communication and interned for ABC’s “Good Morning America” in New York City and Washington D.C. He is married and resides in Los Angeles.
