49ers & Giants Renewing An Old Playoff Rivalry
Sunday night, the San Francisco 49ers host the New York Giants in the NFC Championship Game. These two teams met earlier this season, in Week 10, with the 49ers winning 27-20.
San Francisco and New York have a rich playoff history dating back to the days of Joe Montana and Lawrence Taylor. The last two playoff meetings between these franchises have both been classics.
In the 1991 NFC Championship Game, the Giants won 15-13 on a last second Matt Bahr field goal.
During their 2003 NFC Wild Card matchup, the 49ers erased a 24-point deficit, defeating the Giants 39-38.
The 49ers lead the all-time playoff series 4-3. This includes a 4-1 record in San Francisco.
Football fans can only hope this upcoming contest will be as great as the teams’ last two playoff meetings.
