Alabama Accomplishes Many Historical Feats With BCS Win
By Ryan Rapoport - Tue, 2012-01-10 14:48
Monday night, #2 Alabama beat #1 LSU 21-0 in the BCS National Championship Game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Since the BCS was formed in 1998, Alabama became the first team to record a shutout in a BCS bowl. This was also the first time that LSU has been shutout since 2002, when ironically it was Alabama who held them scoreless.
Remarkably, Alabama now owns 14 total national championships (eight AP titles), with Nick Saban possessing three titles as a head coach (two with Bama & one with LSU).
The Crimson Tide also became the first non independent team, since the 1936 Minnesota Golden Gophers, to win the national championship without winning their conference title.
