Coach K & Bill Self Checking Out Nation’s Top 2014 Recruit (Videos)
Tuesday evening, iFolloSports.com was on hand for a high school basketball game at Minnetonka High School, in the Twin Cities suburb of Minnetonka, Minnesota. The game featured the nation’s top 2014 high school basketball recruit, junior Tyus Jones, from Apple Valley High School.
The early season contest drew the attention of many interested spectators, including Kansas Jayhawks coach Bill Self and legendary Duke Blue Devils head man Mike Krzyzewski. These coaches have won a combined five NCAA championships (Krzyzewski- 4, Self-1).
Below is iFolloSports.com original video of the big name coaches commiserating with one another, prior to tipoff. Coach K was accompanied by a couple familiar faces, assistant coaches/former Duke players Jeff Capel and Steve Wojciechowski.
In addition, below is original video of Coach Self, shortly after his arrival in the building.
Minnesota high school hoops fans were in awe of sharing a gym with the assembled group of NCAA icons, particularly the sport’s all-time winningest coach, Krzyzewski. All of the basketball greats were very cordial to fans, posing for photos and shaking hands with many of those in attendance.
Here is iFolloSports.com original video of the evening’s star on court attraction. Check out clips of Jones playing defense and working his game in the open court. The 6-1 point guard really stood out amongst his fellow suburban Minneapolis youngsters.
It should be noted that last weekend, Kentucky Wildcats coach John Calipari and Louisville Cardinals coach Rick Pitino also stopped through the Twin Cities, to catch a glimpse of the high school prodigy in action. It will be interesting to see what big program lands this highly sought-after ballplayer.
Hoops fans can also view iFolloSports.com original videos of Self and Krzyzewski, shot during last spring’s Elite Youth Basketball League tournament in Eagan, Minnesota. The Elite event featured this season’s top high school recruit, Chicago’s Jabari Parker. Parker will publically announce his college decision on December 20.
