A Historic Monday Night Football Matchup In SF
By Ryan Rapoport - Sun, 2011-12-18 06:00
Monday night, the 49ers host the Steelers in a big inter-conference matchup by the Bay. Both teams own a 10-3 record and are trying to increase playoff position, as well as possibly obtaining first round byes in their respective conferences.
A late season marquee matchup on Monday Night Football is rare these days. This will be only the fourth time that two teams with 10 or more wins and a .750 winning percentage will play on the Monday night stage.
The last time this scenario took place was also in San Francisco, back in 1997. In that historic game, the 12-2 49ers hosted the 11-3 Broncos in a contest that featured future Hall of Fame QB’s Steve Young and John Elway.
The 49ers won that game 34-17.
