A Prince Lands In Motown
Tuesday, the Detroit Tigers signed first baseman Prince Fielder to a whopping nine-year/ $214 million contract. This is a huge signing for the Tigers, who won the AL Central Division in 2011, before losing in the ALCS to the Texas Rangers.
Fielder joins a team that already has one of the best pitchers in baseball, 2011 AL Cy Young/Most Valuable Player award winner Justin Verlander, and a potent lineup that includes Miguel Cabrera, one of the best all around hitters in baseball.
Last season, Cabrera batted .344, with 30 homeruns and 105 RBI, while Fielder hit .299, with 38 HR and 120 RBI for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Though estranged from one another, Prince is heading to the team and city where father Cecil starred from 1990-1996. Back in those days, a young Prince Fielder was a fixture within the clubhouse of old Tiger Stadium.
With this signing, the Tigers should be the clear favorite in the AL Central for many years to come.
