Bill Murray's Pebble Beach Win Makes Us Want To Do the Gopher Dance

D.A. Points and Bill Murray headshots

Until the 2011 AT&T Pro Am golf tournament at Pebble Beach, not many people had ever heard of D. A. Points, who had yet to win a PGA tournament since he went pro in 1999.  But when you're paired with Bill Murray, people tend to take notice no matter who you are.  Famous for his fabulous hats and fairway chatter, Murray's been entertaining golf spectators at this tournament since he started playing it in 1992, although, like Points, he had yet to win one.

"Cinderella Story" references to Murray's first win are, of course, inevitable and irresistable--especially when he started channeling Carl Spackler as he putted the 18th hole.

But the comparison's probably not really all that apt for someone who's been in the spotlight as long as Murray has.  Book cover Cinderella Story My Life in Golf by Bill Murray
