Conan Reaches Out

In the beginning, exiled Late Night Talk Show Host Conan O'Brien created his Twitter account, and saw that it was good.  His daily tweets delighted many, and lo he soon had many followers, though he followed no one.  On the tenth day, he created an internet star ...

The thing we love about Conan is that, when it comes to connecting with his fans, it's never cliché.  (We love this encounter at the Intel show with Tiffany.)

Of course, many are are quick to point out that the tweet was obviously a Team Coco publicity stunt to drum up ticket sales for Conan's upcoming 30-city roadshow, "The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour" , which he announced six days later with this tweet:
"Hey Internet:  I'm headed to your town on a half-assed comedy & music tour. Go to http://TeamCoco.com for tix. I repeat:  It's half-assed."

Which is brilliant, because what  O'Brien's "publicity stunt" really does is expose how irrelevant the old media gatekeepers like The Tonight Show have become.  After decades of erecting all those profitable barriers that have come between entertainers and their audiences,  all those booking agents and PR flacks who've made a living  trading audience eyeballs for celebrity agendas are seeing themselves being cut out of the equation entirely.

And all with a single tweet!
