Cassanova McKinzy and Chick-fil-AFebruary 1 was national signing day for high school football stars and many gave typical answers about their college choices including academics, proximity to home, and coaches.

Linebacker Cassanova McKinzy of Birmingham, Alabama had his own reasons for his decision.

The creatively-named McKinzy paired his choices to two universities and eventually signed with Auburn, picking them over Clemson.

McKinzy told the media his choice came down to fast food.

"They had no Chick-fil-A on campus," he said of Clemson. "You had to go probably like 15 minutes off campus to go to a real restaurant.  Their cafe was kind of small."

Giants defeat Riverballers 211-84If you like high-scoring basketball games, then you would have loved this one Saturday evening in north Florida.

The Jacksonville Giants of the American Basketball Association stomped on the Columbus Riverballers 211-84. The former ABA scoring record of 206 points was also set by the Giants in a 206-102 rout of the Georgia Gwizzlies last season.

The new ABA, which has a ridiculous 86 teams, was founded in 2000 and is unrelated to the old ABA, which merged with the NBA in 1976.

Incidentally, the NBA record for most points in a regulation game is 173, set by the Boston Celtics over the Minneapolis Lakers in 1959 and equaled by the Phoenix Suns over the Denver Nuggets in 1990.

Steve Tisch Beverly Hills homeNew York Giants chairman and executive vice president Steve Tisch is the only man in the world to possess both a Super Bowl ring and an Academy Award.  One week shy of turning 63-years-old, the son of late hotel proprietor and Loews Corporation owner Bob Tisch, has once again successfully climbed his way to the top of the NFL mountain, after the Giants’ 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.

Steve Tisch’s second NFL championship is the latest addition to a résumé that also includes an Oscar for serving as a producer on the 1994 megahit Forrest Gump.

Giants win fourth Super Bowl and eighth NFL titleIn the wake of their 21-17 victory versus the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI, the New York Giants have now put themselves in very select company by winning a fourth Super Bowl. New York joins the Cowboys, Packers, Steelers and 49ers as the only NFL teams with at least four Big Game victories.

The Steelers have the most total wins with six.

The Giants now own a total of eight championships in franchise history, including four NFL Championships won prior to the invention of the Super Bowl in 1967.

Giants win as 2.5-point underdogOur Super Bowl prediction of an upset by the Giants and an under of 53 proved to be prophetic, as New York scored in the final minute to defeat New England 21-17. The Giants were a 2.5-point underdog and the line for total points scored was the previously mentioned 53.

The Giants became the first team to win the Super Bowl with a 9-7 regular season record. Eli Manning and company’s playoff victories over the Falcons, Packers, 49ers and Patriots, teams who totaled 51 regular season wins, also set an NFL record.

Final record on Upset Alerts for the football season:  19-13

Betting On Super Bowl Kickers Vs. Lakers Bench There are literally dozens of Super Bowl "prop" bets offered annually by Las Vegas sportsbooks and here is one of the oddest on the board this year.

The kickers in Sunday's game are a 6 1/2-point underdog versus the number of points scored by the Los Angeles Lakers bench, Monday night against the Philadelphia 76ers.

We advise going with the kickers in this one.

Update: The Super Bowl kickers tallied 13 points, with the Lakers bench totaling 16. Based on the 6 1/2-point spread, the placekickers easily covered.

As Usual, St. Elmo Is Indy’s Place To Be During Super Bowl WeekAs the sports and entertainment world continues to gather in Indianapolis for all the festivities surrounding Super Bowl XLVI, without question, the number one place to rub elbows with your favorite athletes and celebs is the legendary St. Elmo Steak House.

Established all the way back in 1902, St. Elmo has long stood as one of The Circle City’s prime dining destinations. When combining the restaurant’s history with its very centralized downtown location, it’s no wonder that St. Elmo has been bumping with activity throughout Indianapolis’ week in the world spotlight.

Super Bowl XLVI prediction We thought the opening line for the Super Bowl, which favored New England by 3 1/2 points, was all wrong.  Now that the spread is down to 2 1/2, we have not changed our mind.

It makes us a little nervous because everyone seems to be picking the Giants. Plus, the favorite has won 33 of the previous 45 Super Bowls.

In the battle of two prolific passing offenses, we like New York 27-20.

Season Upset Alert record to date: 18-13

Super Bowl XLVI first rematch since 1994The Super Bowl XLVI battle between the New York Giants and New England Patriots is a rematch of the great Super Bowl XLII, played in Glendale, Arizona during 2008.

The Giants came out on top in that one 17-14.

This will be the ninth rematch in Super Bowl history. The last Big Game repeat was Super Bowl XLVIII in Atlanta. In this 1994 contest, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Buffalo Bills 30-17.

The year prior, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, Dallas trounced Buffalo 52-17 in Super Bowl XXVII.

Eli Manning 3,555 square foot condo in HobokenWhile much attention has been given to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s brand new 22,000 square foot home in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Brentwood, far less fanfare has resulted from the news of New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning’s newly renovated 3,555 square foot condo in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Our guess is that the understated younger brother of Peyton Manning is just fine with that.

Unlike Brady, who is of course married to supermodel Gisele, Eli Manning has settled down with college girlfriend Abby McGrew. The couple met on the campus of Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi.
