Chris Perez comments on Indians fansCleveland Indians closer Chris Perez spoke at length Sunday regarding the dismal attendance at Progressive Field this season.

Cleveland is last in all of baseball, averaging a home crowd of less than 16,000, in a venue that holds more than 43,000.

"It's just a slap in the face when you're last in attendance. Last. It's not like we're 25th or 26th. We're last. Oakland is out-drawing us. That's embarrassing," explained Perez.

The Indians are off to a hot start this season, leading the AL Central by 3.5 games, entering Wednesday’s game versus the Detroit Tigers.

The aforementioned Athletics are averaging under 19,000 spectators at home, so far in 2012, with the surprising Baltimore Orioles drawing only a little more than 22,000.

Orioles 14 consecutive losing seasonsThe Baltimore Orioles defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-3 Thursday night, improving their record to 25-14, heading into Friday’s interleague matchup versus the Washington Nationals.

With the victory, Baltimore became the first team in the Major Leagues to win 25 games.

The Birds are a stunning 13-5 on the road.

Baltimore was the preseason choice to finish last in the AL East. Meanwhile, the traditional powers from New York and Boston are fourth and fifth respectively at the quarter pole and are fighting it out for last place.

Prince Fielder MLB lead in consecutive games played Detroit Tigers 1B Prince Fielder may never win a Mr. Universe competition, but the rotund lefty slugger does possess the remarkable talent of never ever missing a day at the office.

Fielder’s Wednesday night start versus the Minnesota Twins marked his 218th consecutive game played.

In fact, the 5-11, 275 lbs. big man has taken the field in 545 of the last 546 Major League games played.

The only game Fielder missed during this noteworthy stretch took place back in September of 2008, when the then Milwaukee Brewer was sidelined for one game, after catching a bout of the flu from his kids.
