Maurizio Zamparini is Italian for George SteinbrennerAnother wacky story from European soccer has once again showed up to delight us. Bombastic Maurizio Zamparini, owner and chairman of the Italian League’s Palermo team, fired his 36th coach in the past 24 seasons.

Newcastle Premier LingerieThis weekend, sports fans are wearing team jerseys, caps, shirts and many other forms of gear, in support of their favorite team. Across the pond, fans have been introduced to an entirely new approach to sports apparel.

Newcastle United is a team in the highest division of English soccer, the Premier League. The club is launching a line of provocative women's sleepwear called Premier Lingerie. This should make their fans feel a whole lot better about themselves.

Arsenal giving away free road ticketsArsenal is a longtime power in the English Premier League, but is very inexperienced this season and is taking their lumps as a result. 

Last Sunday, they traveled about 400 miles north to play Manchester United and were mauled 8-2. About 3,000 fans made the trip and now those followers are being rewarded for their loyalty. 

Monday, the North London club announced that they would be offering a free ticket to another road game, for those supporters who bought tickets for the match in Manchester. 

A statement from the club read: “Arsenal Football Club has announced it will be writing to fans who travelled to Old Trafford on Sunday with an offer to cover the cost of a match ticket at a future Barclays Premier League away game.”

Mara and Dona named after Diego MaradonaAccording to sportsdeke.com, an Argentina journalist named his twin daughters Mara and Dona, because of the affection felt for his country's former soccer superstar Diego Maradona.

As sportsdeke notes and we agree: It is good for us all that he was not such a big fan of Brazilian standout Kaka.

Bill Hempen Big 12 emailLast month, University of Colorado soccer coach Bill Hempen received an odd email from the Big 12 Conference, asking him to nominate some of his players for preseason league honors. 

One problem, Colorado is now in the Pac-12. 

"As much as we miss the Big 12, I doubt if any of our players would get any votes," explained Hempen to the Denver Post.
