Super Bowl XLIV the most watched television program in American history

The New Orleans Saints 31-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts was witnessed by more people than any other event in television history. Sunday's game generated an audience of 106.5 million viewers. The game bested the 105.97 million viewers, who tuned into the final episode of   "M-A-S-H" in 1983.

Last year's game, between the Steelers and Cardinals, was viewed by 98.7 million people.

Peyton Manning in the midst of his most impressive season

Colts' quarterback Peyton Manning is one of the greatest players in NFL history.  Few people would question this not so grand proclamation. For all the unbelievable numbers Manning has posted throughout his 12-year career, 2009 would have to be considered his finest performance.

This season, Manning picked up his fourth MVP award, in leading the Colts to the best record in the NFL.  He threw for 4,500 passing yards and 33 touchdowns.

Michael Irvin in Beverly Hills

I was with several people, at the Sidebar, in the lobby of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills.  While there, we saw Cowboys’ legend Michael Irvin entertaining a group of people (mostly attractive blondes) at the bar for a while.  It was a Saturday night, so Irvin was in town for his Sunday morning TV gig at the nearby NFL Network in Culver City.  It was very clear that Irvin commanded the attention of the group he was with.  His brash, flamboyant approach to football and television was very much at play on this night.  After a while, the group left to go who knows where.  Whatever

Super Bowl III reincarnated this week in Indy

After a weekend of mostly lopsided football games, the NFL's version of the final four is set.  The first game will match the New York Jets and the Indianapolis Colts in America's heartland.

The melodrama surrounding the AFC Championship Game involves the very unique "big game" history shared by the Jets and Colts. Way back in 1969, these two teams locked up in Super Bowl III, a game that proved to be one of the most significant events in NFL history.

Kansas City becoming New England West

Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs hired former Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel to be their defensive coordinator.  This announcement takes place one week after the Chiefs appointed former Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis, offensive coordinator.  Both Crennel and Weis served in identical capacities for the New England Patriots, during the Pat's three Super Bowl victories in the early 2000's.
