Bitter rivals Velez and Zrinjski, two teams split by an ethnic divide, recently played for the Bosnian Cup.  Visiting Velez scored a goal in extra time and as you might imagine, the fans of Zrinjski did not take it too well. The irrational spectators charged the field as the Velez team fled for their lives, running to the parking lot and the relative safety of the team bus.

Fenerbahce bans men at gamesTurkey has come up with a unique solution to control fan violence in soccer stadiums. League champion Fenerbahce was ordered to play two home games without any spectators after fans invaded the pitch during a friendly match with Ukrainian champion Donetsk in July.  The fans also attacked journalists who were critical of the team.

One problem, Colorado is now in the Pac-12. 

"As much as we miss the Big 12, I doubt if any of our players would get any votes," explained Hempen to the Denver Post.

Real Madrid signs Leonel Angel Coira For many years, Real Madrid was the king of Europe. Recently, other clubs such as arch rival Barcelona and Manchester United are ruling the roost. So, to restock their roster, Real Madrid has been scouring Europe and South America for future stars. 

Monday, they signed a young play-maker from Argentina named Leonel Angel Coira, who happens to be 7-years-old. The “youngster” will join the club youth system on September 5.

World Cup Final Is Set

2011 FIFA Women's World CupWednesday, Team Japan scored its second consecutive major upset, defeating Sweden 3-1 to advance to the Women's World Cup final Sunday against the USA. Japan shocked Germany 1-0 last weekend to advance to today's semifinal. Japan is 0-3 this year against the Americans.
